Cleaning & Prevention

Prevention and early detection is the key to avoiding tooth decay and gum disease. A good home regimen, in addition to regular cleanings and exams, can prevent many expensive dental treatments. Prevention starts with controlling plaque, a colorless bacteria that sticks to the surface of your teeth, and calculus, a harder mineral deposit. These are the main sources of decay and periodontal disease. By maintaining a proper routine of daily hygiene, you can prevent most oral disease. My hygienist is available to assist you and your child with daily hygiene habits.

We recommend your child's first dental appointment by age 2. However, schedule earlier if you see a problem or have a question about. the erupting primary teeth. Your child's first appointment should be as pleasant as possible. Our goal for the first appointment is to reduce anxiety and fear, meet our staff, make the child feel comfortable in our office environment and develop a positive attitude toward dentistry.

Regular dental cleanings performed by a registered dental hygienist, are a crucial part of preventive dental care. By removing plaque and tartar, your child's oral health is enhanced and risk of gingivitis and periodontal disease are reduced. My dental hygienist will utilize manual instruments to remove plaque and tartar buildup. The cleaning is finished with polishing; a pleasant procedure that cleans the surface of teeth, removes stains, and leaves the mouth feeling clean and refreshed.

Fluoride Treatments

After a dental cleaning, a fluoride treatment is recommended. Fluoride helps to prevent tooth decay by slowing down the breakdown of enamel and can aid in the remineralizing process. If your drinking water is not fluoridated, a prescription for a daily fluoride supplement can be given.

Upon examination, if treatment is needed, we will discuss the type of treatment and manner which it will be completed. If indicated, oral sedation is available to treat patient anxiety and management.
